Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are superfoods and why are they in dog food?
Prevention is better than cure, as Grandma always says. That is why we use five types of fruit in every variety that are particularly rich in vitamins, provitamins, and antioxidants—so-called superfoods. Superfoods can help your darling stay healthy in a natural way. Because superfoods are super for dogs, too :) Our food contains the following superfoods: Aronia berries: Studies have shown that the blue-black aronia berries (chokeberries) have anti-inflammatory, cholesterol-lowering, vasodilator, blood sugar-regulating, and antioxidant effects. Aronia has a mildly laxative effect, promotes urine production, and can reduce the risk of urinary tract infections. This small berry also seems well-suited to lowering blood pressure and fat levels in the blood. A true super-berry. Rose hips: Rose hips have a high content of vitamins and provitamins, such as vitamins C, A, B1, B2, and E. They can help with spring fatigue and prevent colds. Rose hips also gently promote bowel movements and support the body in forming new immune cells. Goji berries: Goji berries are not only rich in vitamins, but also in antioxidants. Antioxidants protect the body from cell damage and thus counteract aging. It is no wonder they have been used in Chinese medicine for over 4,000 years. A medical manual from the Ming Dynasty states: "Regular consumption of the goji berry regulates the vital flow of energy, strengthens the entire organism, and grants a long life." So, exactly the right thing for your darling. Blueberries: The blueberry, also known as the bilberry, is native to our latitudes. Ronny's personal favorite berry. Blueberries are among the fruits with the highest antioxidant effect, meaning they scavenge free radicals that lead to cell damage. In addition, they contain many vitamins, such as vitamin C, as well as beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is converted into vitamin A in the body, which supports eye function. Blueberries have anti-inflammatory properties and can help the skin with its natural protective function from the outside, as well as with digestive disorders from the inside. And the great thing is: blueberries have very few calories, making them perfect for a low-calorie and low-carb diet. Plus, they simply taste delicious. Sea buckthorn: Some call sea buckthorn the "lemon of the north." That is not actually correct, because: The vitamin C content in sea buckthorn is many times higher than in lemons. This allows sea buckthorn to protect the immune system in a natural way. In addition to many other vitamins, the berries contain potassium and magnesium. Both substances support the muscles and nerves, while the calcium also contained in them strengthens the bones. Finally, sea buckthorn berries are also rich in tannins. Tannins give many medicinal plants, like sea buckthorn, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and mucous membrane-protecting properties.
2. What are natural herbs and why are they in dog food?
Natural herbs are herbs that have been used in naturopathy for hundreds of years. In our food, you will find, for example, marigold and wild pansy. Both are intended to help your pet achieve a shiny coat and bright eyes. Wild pansy is often used for skin conditions and can promote a shiny coat and bright eyes. Due to its mild properties, it is frequently used in naturopathy for children and the elderly. It is therefore also very well-suited for sensitive dogs. Furthermore, thanks to its valuable ingredients, wild pansy can help with rheumatism, gout, and joint inflammation. The marigold supports wound healing, can reduce dry skin, and inhibit inflammation. Additionally, it is said to have a positive influence on the immune system. In naturopathy, marigold is used as a supportive treatment for conjunctivitis. And all of this with the power of nature.
3. What are devil's claw and green-lipped mussel, and why are they used in combination?
As we age, we become more sluggish; our movements are no longer as quick as in our younger years. Everything simply takes more time. Our beloved pets experience the same thing. This makes it all the more important to support their bones and joints preventively well in advance. Devil's claw originates from Africa, where it has been used for hundreds of years. Devil's claw has an anti-inflammatory effect and promotes the mobilization of stiff joints. In naturopathy, it is primarily used for joint pain, rheumatism, osteoarthritis, and other joint diseases. Furthermore, it aids digestion. Green-lipped mussels contain ingredients that are also found in synovial fluid. In this way, they can naturally slow down the aging process of your pet's bones and joints. The shell of the green-lipped mussel also provides them with calcium – in a natural way. Especially in combination, both ingredients, devil's claw and green-lipped mussel, can be far more effective than adding them individually.
4. Why do you include two oils in the feed, linseed oil and thistle oil, rather than just one?
An adequate supply of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids is important for your pet's cell metabolism. A dog cannot produce these two fatty acids itself, meaning they must be part of a high-quality food. Every variety of Naturalis DOG food contains a balanced blend of linseed oil and safflower oil. Linseed oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins B and E. It supports a thick and shiny coat. Furthermore, it has an anti-inflammatory effect and stimulates the appetite. Of all edible oils, safflower oil has the highest number of unsaturated fatty acids, particularly many important omega-6 fatty acids. It also contains the important vitamins A and E. Through their active ingredient tocopherol, safflowers promote wound healing and reduce skin problems. The combination of linseed oil and safflower oil provides your pet with all essential fatty acids and can thus help to naturally balance and maintain the gastrointestinal flora. Both oils are naturally cold-pressed, which is gentler and ensures that more valuable nutrients are retained.
